South East Asia, Korea Game Developers Take Lion’s Share of Prizes in Ohayoo’s First Global Casual Game Developer Competition
We’re excited to announce the top 10 winners of Ohayoo’s first Global Casual Game Developer Competition, which invited gaming studios of all sizes to compete for an opportunity to take home a range of tiered prizes. Nearly 300 games from 22 different countries were submitted in our inaugural competition, with almost 125 small and indie developers vying for prizes including $1,500 USD for each of the top 10 winners.
Ohayoo convened a group of publishing experts to carefully consider its selection of the top 10 games based on different aspects like gameplay, art style, creative, and market potential. Six of the winning games were submitted by developers in Korea, with the top 10 rounded out by games from developers spanning Malaysia, Indonesia, Israel and France. We’re pleased to introduce our favorite simulation, puzzle and arcade games from the competition, which stood out for their impressive innovation in design, high-quality production, and strong potential for player retention and monetization.
🔫Circuroid (Malaysia, Shoot’em up/STG)🔫
High quality, innovation of traditional Shoot’em up that’s easy to enjoy but still requires technique
Basic rules are the same as traditional STG, with players unlocking powerful weapons and controlling three aircrafts simultaneously to shoot as many targets as possible. Unlike traditional Shoot’em up games where players can only move horizontally, Circuroid builds a circular orbit and puts all gameplay elements inside a magic arc. This innovation makes the game much more challenging and interesting. Casual games with simple and single gameplay are typically harder to monetize, as players easily become bored, so developers tend to add looping systems and combine different elements of gameplay. However, such solutions typically require more investment, and Circuroid found another way to improve the game experience.

Play the role of a rabbit named Kay, who must eliminate the chaos created after accidentally awakening a divinity whose sole pleasure is to send cats to invade Kay’s magical world. The game also features unique comic-style art, and its simple but interesting characters contribute to an attractive storyline and immersive player experience.

Crush the Block : tap tap fly (Korea, Side-Scrolling + Sliding Tile)🐟
Innovative combination of side-scrolling and sliding tile with retro art style and complete game loop, fitting into the new puzzle game trend in the Chinese market
Players choose from a range of characters and tap the screen to hit or avoid blocks with different numbers and national flags on them. The mature game system is more dynamic than other simple side-scrolling games, delivering an outstanding experience that requires players to plan strategically to win.
